" Dear M. Habrias,

Merci de votre email. Oui, the White House Historical Association is aware of Chateau Rastignac. Our consulting historian, Dr. William Seale interviewed members of the family that lived in the Chateau before World War II, and I visited the Chateau six years ago (my wife is from Bordeaux).

The Chateau has been featured in past issues this association's book, "The White House: An Historic Guide" since the Chateau has a curved portico very similar to the curved South Portico on the White House. The Chateau was built not to long after the
White House was constructed (1789-1800), and it is not known for sure if it was planned to look like the White House, but it is obvious it does. The interior of the Chateau which was reconstructed after World War II somewhat resembles the White House before the 1903 interior renovations during President Theodore Roosevelt's administration.
