"The cricket test" : in April 1990, Norman Tebbitt (now Lord Tebbit) formerly aConservative MP for 22 years and a minister in Margaret Thatcher's governments, proposed that the national identity and loyalty of people from ethnic minorities could be tested by the cricket team that they supported : the England team or the team from their country of origin.
Cricket is a sport that is played all over the world in countries that were once part of the British Empire. N. Tebbitt said that he had been proved right after the London bombings of 7 July 2005 when four British-born Muslim men killed 52 people in bombs on public transport in London in protest over Britain's involvement in the Iraq war.
The Anglo Indian Nasser Hussain was captain of the England cricket team from 1999-2003.
